Congratulations to Dion and Rachel, who just had an adorable baby boy, Ian Jacob, on 11/11!

    Rachel: heal up quickly!

    post-tournament bruise count
17, including 3 bleeders. One is from practice, it looks older. I think that's a record.

My left hand is... damaged. Besides 3 good skin-cutting slices, I've got a major raised bruise over the hand bone extending to my pinky finger. It's not from bringing my hand into target area, it's from successful in-fighting. Clumsy opponents trying to get their weapons back onto my torso after I've gotten inside their reach.

    Oh well. Bedtime.

Too much social noise, and not of the aural variety.

I really am turning into an old hermit/crank.

Anyway, a boy situation update: a certain favorite soldier is no longer heading straight to Iraq, but is going to Korea after all (he'll deploy to Iraq from that location in a few months or something). However, before he goes, he's visiting me! Started driving to New Hampshire, from Arizona, on Thursday. He'll arrive on Tuesday. I guess he really likes me or something. :)

    bring it on!
Two hours of cardio and endurance training, intensive footwork, and more than two hundred lunges. Every day. It's fencing hell week #2.

    First tourney, two weeks.

So light-headed, so sore I can hardly walk or go down stairs. But it is. so. good.

I can do things with my team that I can't do by myself.

(yelled like an Army march call:)

Harvard, Princeton, Yale and Brown! (Harvard, Princeton, Yale and Brown!)

First day of fencing practice-- I'm wiped. Met the new kiddies, except my lone female epee acquisition, who skipped. They're cute and a few are promising. I desperately need to regain my sense of timing, but that will come with practice-- I can see the opportunities, I just can't quite stop tripping over myself and take them and get a hit, or launch a fleche. Soon, I hope. First tournament is still two weeks away, I think. At least footwork is in good order.
Otherwise, winter is far less painful than I had imagined, mainly by virtue of having a car here. I just drove to Food Court and it was awesome. I'd probably be less lazy, but this four classes thing is really keeping me running already, and with my house on the fringe of campus it does help save time to drive. Anyway-- it's great to be back. :)

Don't know how to describe my adventures here, so I figured it would be better to just post pictures from them. I finished my final papers last week. My friend Katie from Dartmouth just arrived, and we're travelling around the country for about ten days: Belfast, Derry, Galway, the Aran Islands, the Burren, Killarney, the Ring of Kerry, and perhaps Cork. I'm coming home to J-town on the 16th. Welton is arriving on the 17th. We're leaving for New Jersey on the 26th, I'm heading alone on the 30th to Boston for New Year's, and then up to Dartmouth around January 2. I would like to visit with people back home, but I'm not sure I'm going to be able to, with Christmas and not seeing my family for so long. I'm not going home for spring break, either, so pardon anti-social tendencies this break; I don't have much time with them.
